C5 Racing Style Gas / Fuel Door Cover. Made from Stainless Steel and Mirror Polished to perfection! In 2002 when I first bought my vette I found a really cool Fuel Door at Eckler's which was stainless steel and brushed.
It replaced the factory door completely but there wasn't a polished version that would match the polished or chrome wheels many of us have. It had two draw backs, first it involved removing the stock fuel door and arm and then it was replaced with a new arm and seven screws. In 2005 the C6 came out, and Putco came out with a chrome plated plastic fuel door cover for the vette (which we carry) and to me it just didn't look quite right.
In part it was because the thickness of the plastic made it sit a bit too high for my taste. Installation was a no brainer and reversible, they had a low profile and from a distance were indistinguishable from a billet door. They would never rust, and because they were stainless and not chrome plated, peeling chrome would never be an issue. Best of all the price was less than half of a billet door. I installed the first prototype on my own car which is pictured above.
As a result I get a lot of compliments on it and a couple of weeks ago a couple pulled up to me at a light and showered me with platitudes on how good the car looked! So here you have it, the first and only affordable fuel door cover for the C5 Corvette, and it wont cost you an arm nor a leg but it will make your Corvette look like a million! Made from High Quality T-304 Stainless Steel.
Wont Rust, wont peel and easy to clean with chrome polish. Installs in Minutes with supplied 3M automotive adhesive. Product Video / Installation Video: None. Installation is best performed when the temperature is around 70 degrees or above. If its cold outside either wait for the temperature to rise or use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the back side of the part and the door before apply the adhesive. Remove the cover from the packaging and take the supplied 3M automotive foam adhesive and peel and stick between the rivets on the back side of the cover. Clean the surface of the fuel door with a good degreasing soap or Windex and wipe dry with a clean rag. Do not use a dirty contaminated rag as any oils or soil can impede the adhesive from adhering. Test fit the cover first before removing the protective adhesive covering.
This tape is wicked strong and if you lay it down on a clean surface before positioned correctly you will have a devil of a time getting it back off. If you need to you can use a plastic spudger or putty knife to help lift the tape a piece at a time to reposition the cover. It is best to "roll" it on from left to right, place the lip of the cover against the left edge and snug it up and then lay it over using your fingers to keep it aligned top and bottom and then push firmly to seat it and you are done!
